Pat Morris wasn’t planning to bring a second dog into her home. The Plum resident was still mourning the loss of her dog, Boca, who died in August 2024. In a previous life, he had been used as a “bait dog” for fighting dogs in Puerto Rico.

But in early 2025, Morris adopted Shadow, a shy dog from Kentucky who needed a loving home and a lot of confidence building. He seemed to need all of Morris’ attention.

Then she heard about Romeo, a 12- or 13-year-old border collie mix who had spent his entire life tied up outside. He had been rescued a year earlier by Armstrong County humane officer Chris O’Donnell and was living in a kennel.

Morris knew that she had to help.
