NEW BEDFORD – Work is progressing on the $44 million Leonard’s Wharf reconstruction and extension project on the central waterfront to provide port access for offshore wind and berthing space for commercial fishing vessels.
Work began in May and is expected to be completed in October 2026, said John T. Regan, New Bedford Port Authority director of Policy and External Affairs.
The reconstructed wharf will be able to accommodate offshore wind installation and operations and maintenance vessels.
Regan added the extra berthing space for commercial fishing vessels was “much-needed.”
