Penn State, now recognized as the nation’s No. 2 team in the preseason Associated Press poll, has continued its run of national recognition.

The Nittany Lions placed three players on this year’s Chuck Bednarik Award watch list: defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton, defensive tackle Zane Durant and cornerback A.J. Harris. The award is given to the defensive player of the year in college football.

The Bednarik Award serves as a counterpart to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which also recognizes the defensive player of the year. Harris and Durant each made the Nagurski Trophy watch list, while Dennis-Sutton was left off.
