A new YouTube system powered by artificial intelligence has started combing through every video users watch in America.

It's part of the streaming services' measures to protect teenage users.

The system currently only affects a small proportion of YouTube’s audience in the US; however, it could be rolled out on a wider scale if it proves to be successful.

But how does it work?

The new-age verification system relies on AI to help differentiate adults and teenagers by monitoring what content a person is watching.

The system only works when users are logged into their accounts and will make an assessment of age regardless of the birth date users put in when making a user profile.
