Buddy Marucci wasn’t looking to join another country club back in 1994. After all, he was already a member of a handful at the time. However, the leadership of a newly opened club in Owings Mills was very persuasive.

Marucci agreed to join Caves Valley Golf Club and immediately became its most accomplished member in terms of playing pedigree.

One year after becoming a member of Caves Valley, Marucci made headlines by taking Tiger Woods to the wire in the 1995 United States Amateur Championship.

Marucci was a 43-year-old businessman when he met the 19-year-old phenom from California in the finals at Newport Country Club. Their match went to the 36th and final hole before Woods made a birdie putt to close out a 2-up win.
