New Changes to the Webbers Falls Police Department

The town of Webbers Falls has appointed a new police chief following the sudden resignation of its former chief and after laying off two officers just last week.

Austin Alden, who previously served as a corporal and school resource officer, is now leading the department.

Sudden Resignation Catches Department Off Guard

The previous Chief, Mike James, resigned unexpectedly on Monday. Alden says the resignation came as a surprise, but he stepped into the role to prevent a total shutdown of the department.

"As of yesterday he promoted me to Assistant Chief to keep the department open because he was going to resign due to personal issues," Alden said, "So I obviously took it to keep it open, that way we didn't have to shut down and wait
