Tropical Storm Erin in the central Atlantic is expected to begin strengthening today. It's forecast to become a hurricane by Thursday or Friday and a major hurricane Sunday, Aug. 17. A major hurricane is a Category 3 or stronger storm with maximum sustained winds of at least 111 mph.
