Cindy Myrex, a Smith Lake realtor, has secured the Republican nomination for Alabama House District 12, defeating Clint Hollingsworth, a Cullman city councilman, in Tuesday’s special primary runoff.

Myrex and Hollingsworth received the most votes among the four candidates in the July 15 GOP special primary, but neither candidate passed the 50 percent threshold.

With all precincts reporting, the unofficial results show Myrex winning decisively with 3,048 votes, 58.53 percent of the total, compared to Hollingsworth’s 2,160 votes, or 41.47 percent. About 5,200 residents voted in the runoff on Tuesday.
