The Folk Orchestra of Santa Barbara is launching its fall and winter concert season next month with a colorful lineup that spans centuries, from rollicking sea chanteys to medieval battle horns.
“We’re playing with our — and your — friends and neighbors,” said music director Adam Phillips. “We have created a community over the years and we welcome new listeners each time we play.”
The new season opens Sept. 19–21 with Songs of the Sea, a set featuring maritime music from around the world, including “The Water Is Wide,” “Haul Away Joe,” “The Wellerman,” and “The Navy Hymn,” alongside Americana, Spanish, and Italian tunes.
On Nov. 7–9, the spotlight turns to Scotland with guest artists Alasdair Fraser, widely regarded as Scotland’s leading fiddle ambassador, and California cellist Natal
