SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WIS/WCSC) - The Sumter County Coroner’s Office says one of the two Lowcountry women found dead in a rural part of the county was shot to death.
Christine McAbee, of Walterboro, died of a gunshot wound, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said during a news conference Tuesday.
Baker said the autopsy for the second victim, Kristen Grissom, of North Charleston, did not reveal any physical trauma and the cause of death will be pending until toxicology results are in.
Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said McAbee and Grissom’s bodies were found Friday in a wooded area off of Richbow Road by a landowner.
“We believe the bodies were brought to the location and left there. Where the actual killing did occur is still under investigation at this time,” Dennis said.
