ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford Park District celebrated the 50th anniversary of its iconic "Sun Singer" logo Tuesday, honoring its creator, Eugene Holmberg, and his daughters at a special event.

The "Sun Singer" logo, adopted on August 12, 1975, was designed by Eugene Holmberg and has become a symbol of the Forest City. Originally, the park district's logo featured a picnic table with trees in the background before Holmberg's design was chosen.

To commemorate the anniversary, banners featuring the "Sun Singer" were displayed at the Webbs-Norman Center, at 401 S Main Street, and along North 2nd Street. Additionally, the Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens was illuminated in orange and yellow, reflecting the colors of the logo.
