August 15, 1965: “It was 60 years ago today Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.” While the lyrics are from the classic 1967 album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the words of course are actually “20 years ago.” But on August 15, 1965, 60 years ago as of this Friday, The Beatles played their iconic concert at Shea Stadium, right here in Queens. Once again history is impacted by The Fab Four visiting Queens. We all know how many times the Queens Gazette has written about Feb 7, 1964, the day that The Beatles landed at the newly renamed JFK Airport and changed the history of the world. 18 months later, here we go again.
