ST. LOUIS — A 14-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the arm Tuesday by a teenage boy playing with a gun, St. Louis police said.

The girl was shot about 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 5800 block of Cabanne Avenue, in the city's West End neighborhood.

Officers applied a tourniquet to her arm, and she was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said she was stable.

A 15-year-old boy was playing with the gun when it discharged, police said. He was not cooperating with investigators, police said, and was taken to juvenile detention.

The girl is among at least 41 children shot in the St. Louis metro area this year. Nineteen of them have died.
