Backers of Arkansas’s law requiring public display of the Christian commandments asserted Tuesday that the law is constitutional and based on historical tradition rather than religion.
A federal judge in Fayetteville on Aug. 4 temporarily blocked enforcement of Act 573 of 2025 in a lawsuit brought by parents of public schoolchildren in Northwest Arkansas school districts. The ruling affects only Fayetteville, Springdale, Bentonville and Siloam Springs schools.
Pine Bluff schools put up posters of the Decalogue donated by local ministers on Aug. 5, the day the law took effect, The Pine Bluff Commercial reported. The website of RestoreAmericanSchools, a group that supplies Ten Commandments posters for schools, says 288 Arkansas schools have been “adopted” by donors.
