NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Some people in New Haven may have noticed their tap water looked a little off this week. City leaders are saying this week's hot weather could be the reason the city's water is discolored.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker says the high temperatures increase water flow in the city's system, and that can stir up minerals that can turn tap water cloudy or a murky brown color.
"When it's hot and dry out for a number of days, the demand for water goes up. That demand causes more water to go through the system. That increased demand stirs up the naturally occurring sediment," said Kevin Watsey, Director of Public Affairs for the Regional Water Authority.
