YouTube has made watching videos harder for underage users. As of Wednesday, the streaming video giant has begun using artificial intelligence to determine if certain users are under the age of 18.
If the system determines the user is underage, it will automatically apply "age-appropriate experiences and protections," the company said in a blog post. Those protections include:
Disabling personalized advertising.
Turning on digital wellbeing tools.
Adding safeguards to recommendations , including limiting repetitive views of some kinds of content.
If the user is actually over 18, they can verify their age by providing a government issued ID or a credit card.
