A suspect involved in the fatal stabbing of a bicyclist at a east Houston trail early Aug. 7 has been arrested and charged.

The suspect, Aaron Bartholomew Sheehan, 40, was charged with murder for the stabbing death of Anival Elvir Ortiz, 77.

The Houston Police Department released surveillance video of the suspect on Aug. 8 and he was captured by members of HPD’s SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Team on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Sheehan was subsequently charged by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and booked into the Harris County Jail.

What happened

Emergency crews responded to the Harrisburg Hike & Bike Trail, located at 123 N. Drennan St., at 5:55 a.m. on Aug. 7.
