WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith announced that the Senate approved $1.7 million in funding to expand the Alexandria Area YMCA and other facilities as part of 2026 appropriations legislation in an Aug. 12 news release. This legislation now goes to the House of Representatives for a vote.

“When we invest in childcare and community spaces, we invest in the future of our state. That is why I fought for this funding for the YMCA expansion in Alexandria,” said Senator Klobuchar.

The funding would expand and renovate the YMCA by adding and renovating 13,000 square feet to support older adult well-being programs and services, including a new kitchen for community gatherings and senior congregate dining.
