PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Mayor Brett Smiley is now responding to the Trump administration’s decision to send the National Guard into Washington, D.C.
CNN’s Audie Cornish interviewed Mayor Smiley about the statistics in D.C. and in Providence showing lower rates of homicides and violent crime.
She asked Smiley whether the number of violent crimes truly matters to victims’ families.
Smiley went on to say no violent crime should be tolerated, but deploying the National Guard won’t help cities get to zero crime.
