CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) - A former teacher has filed a lawsuit against the Cabarrus County Board of Education, claiming she was denied a job due to racial discrimination.

According to court documents filed on July 28, 2025, Gerhronda Cannady, a Black educator and longtime resident of Cabarrus County, said she was offered a position as an Exceptional Children's Teacher in July 2021, but the offer was suddenly revoked the next day.

Cannady said she had already accepted the job and was invited to attend new employee orientation. But then, she was told the offer was rescinded because she had been marked "non-rehireable." She believes this decision was racially motivated and said the job was given to a white applicant who was not equally qualified.
