Oswego, N.Y. - A 76-year-old swimmer was found dead in Lake Ontario in the town of Oswego on Tuesday night, deputies said.
Deputies were dispatched to the shore of Lake Ontario west of the SUNY Oswego Campus off Route 89 around 9:31 p.m. for a report of a man in the water, according to a news release from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 10:20 p.m., the man was found in the water and pronounced dead.
The man was identified as Barratt A. Gorman, 76, of Oswego.
Gorman routinely swam in the area, according to deputies. He lived nearby on Route 89.
Gorman formerly worked for the New York Power Authority, retiring in 2004, according to online state pension records.
