In the latest step to bring clean drinking water to rural east Coachella Valley residents, eight aging Thermal mobile home parks are on their way to being hooked up to public drinking water, thanks to nearly $17 million in state and federal funds. Plans are also underway to hook up 13 area parks to the district's sewage system.

The Coachella Valley Water District board on Tuesday, Aug. 12, unanimously approved a key step toward hooking up the small communities, all along or near Airport Boulevard, into its drinking water system. The district will now solicit bids from companies, then choose which will perform the work. The board also signed off on low-cost easement purchases and sanitation agreements with 13 park or parcel owners that will allow access to hook up them up to its main sewag
