An assistant conductor for New Jersey Transit has filed a federal lawsuit claiming there were no police officers present when he and other workers were violently attacked by a passenger on a train in Middlesex County.
Mark Coppola, of Marlton, says he was working on a train traveling toward Metropark Station in Middlesex County when a passenger pulled an emergency cord – which stopped the train – and then exposed himself to other passengers.
The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, 2022, according to the lawsuit, filed Aug. 6 in U.S. District Court.
When Coppola approached the passenger, the man allegedly struck him and attacked crew members who came to help, according to the suit, which seeks $150,000 for physical injuries and “mental anguish.”
