LANSING, Mich. (WLNS/WOOD) — A Caledonia woman will do community service for providing a false statement during an investigation into a so-called “dark money” fundraising scheme to fund a petition initiative.

Sandra Baxter was sentenced Wednesday to 20 hours of community service and a fine of $2,500.

In May 2021, retired Michigan Chamber of Commerce officer Robert LaBrant filed a complaint with the Michigan Department of State's office alleging a "dark money scheme" to use nonprofit Michigan! My Michigan! to fund the Unlock Michigan ballot campaign.

Baxter was a fundraising consultant who solicited funds for Michigan! My Michigan! She was initially charged with perjury in February 2024. In March of this year, she admitted in court that she knowingly and willfully made a misleading state
