CORRECTION: Struthers dog dies from dog attack, not shot

STRUTHERS The Mahoning County Dog Warden has issued a correction after previously reporting that a pit bull mix was found with a gunshot wound in Struthers.

A Monday Facebook post from the Mahoning County Dog Warden indicated that the dog was found near the Struthers High School bus garage with gunshot wounds to his head and back.

However, the Dog Warden is now clarifying that the dog was not actually shot and that the wounds actually stemmed from a dog attack.

According to the updated post, two dogs had wandered into a yard in Struthers. Around the same time, the homeowner's dog was outside and a fight broke out resulting in the death of the homeowner's dog.

The dog warden says the homeowner tried to intervene, but got bit.
