Hot on the heels of Harvey Weinstein’s latest conviction , prosecutors for the Manhattan district attorney’s office on Wednesday said they were prepared to put him on trial for a rape charge tied to former aspiring actor Jessica Mann that a jury deadlocked on in June.
“We’re ready to proceed, your honor,” Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg told state Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber at Weinstein’s first appearance since a jury returned a split verdict, resulting in Farber calling a partial mistrial.
Blumberg asked to start the new trial in early January, but the judge said that was too far off. He told prosecutors that if they wanted to try Weinstein again for a charge jurors couldn’t decide on, they had to do so before the year’s end.
