MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – A crane fell over on Wednesday onto an empty Merritt Island home, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials said the incident happened on Mackeral Avenue.

Deputies said there was no one home at the time, and no injuries were reported.

News 6 community correspondent Erik von Ancken spoke on scene with a manager of Big Iron International, the crane company, who said the crane had been set up on top of a water line and the weight of the crane crushed it, causing water to spew out and softening the ground underneath. The crane then toppled over.

The company said the water line did not show up when locating utilities assessed the area.
