The investigation into the killing of a 15-year-old girl was closed after Phoenix police said the suspect was found dead on Aug. 8.

The 15-year-old, Kyelonna Smiley, was found with an apparent gunshot wound near the area of 77th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard on Aug. 4, according to police. After investigating, a potential suspect, identified as Nohe Morelia, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound before officials could locate him.

Morelia, 67, was found after officers responded to a call regarding a dead body by a business near 24th and Van Buren streets, police said.

Since his death, an investigation concluded that Morelia killed Smiley, according to police. No other suspects were believed to be involved, and a motive has not been found.
