Early on, it was clear the two teams were evenly matched, with both struggling to gain the upper hand, but it was South Huron who made the first mistake.
Sarnia opened the scoring when an errant clearance by a Rush player rolled slowly down the centre of the pitch. A Sarnia midfielder pounced, sending a high, hard one-timer into the top of the net, leaving goaltender Sophie Thorpe with no chance.
