Coronation Street legend Julie Hesmondhalgh has shared the ‘startling’ true story behind her new acting venture.

Julie is best known for playing Hayley Patterson on the ITV soap, appearing on the cobbles for over a decade after joining in 1998.

Forming a popular relationship with Roy Cropper, the pair officially tied the knot in 2010 in heartwarming scenes when the law was changed to recognise their union.

Sadly, viewers saw Hayley take her own life in Roy's arms after drinking a fatal cocktail, following a battle with terminal pancreatic cancer in 2014.

Since wrapping up her time on Corrie , Julie has gone on to appear in hit shows Cucumber, Happy Valley, Broadchurch and The Pact.
