Manchester United Under-21s' match against Tamworth was abandoned after a serious head injury.

The National League Cup match was halted in the 42nd minute after young Red Devils midfielder Sekou Kone went down following a collision.

With the score at 0-0, the 19-year-old came off worse when he challenged for a header at a corner.

Kone immediately fell to the ground after clashing heads with one of the Tamworth players, but later managed to stand up.

But the Malian youngster then went down shortly afterwards, and required lengthy treatment form the medical staff.

This prompted the referee to blow the whistle for half time early, with the rest of the players returning to the dressing room as Kone continued to be treated.

He was eventually stretchered off the pitch with an oxygen mask,
