Alberta Health Services has issued a no-contact advisory for a lake east of Calgary, after discovering high levels of cyanobacteria.
Cyanobacteria has been identified in the waters of Eagle Lake, a popular fishing lake roughly eight kilometres southeast of Strathmore.

Also known as blue-green algae, cyanobacteria is naturally occurring and often becomes visible when weather conditions are calm. It looks similar to scum, grass clippings, fuzz or globs on the surface of water, and can be blue-green, greenish-brown, brown and/or pinkish-red. It often smells musty or grassy.
