Hume was subject to transfer interest earlier in the week from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, who reportedly submitted a £10m bid for the Ballymena man.
However, he has put paid to any rumours of a departure in the 2025 summer transfer window by signing a new deal at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2030.
The former Linfield ace said: “The club has shown faith in me with this new contract in the Premier League, which is where I want to be.
“I arrived at Sunderland in League One and I just wanted to play football – I wasn’t thinking about promotions or the Premier League, but this is a massive club and that means there is always going to be opportunities.
