(CNN)– Youtube is starting to test a new safety feature for American teens.

It’s an Ai estimation model that distinguishes age regardless of the birthdate entered when creating the account.

The technology will determine if the user is under 18 based on a variety of signals such as youtube activity and longevity of the account.

if it’s determined a user is under 18, they will be notified and standard protections will automatically be enabled.

These protections include digital well-being tools like reminders to take breaks or go to bed.
