A looming flight attendants’ strike is forcing Air Canada to ground all of its flights by Saturday.

Around 10,000 of the national airline’s flight attendants issued a 72-hour strike notice early Wednesday, as both parties failed to reach an agreement after more than eight months of negotiations.

Air Canada says the “controlled” wind-down of its operations reduces the odds of customers being stranded and allows travellers more time to make alternative arrangements.

The disruption could impact plans for about 130,000 travellers per day, including potentially stranding 25,000 passengers that Air Canada flies home from abroad.
