There is a long-held view shared by some community college leaders that there’s little point to a community college having an alumni association. Why bother to engage with your alumni if most of them transfer to senior colleges for their bachelor’s degrees and attach their loyalties to those institutions? Or, more cynically, since we serve primarily low-income students, trying to fundraise from community college alumni is fishing in the wrong pond. But our experience at LaGuardia confounds these cynics – we know we have many loyal, enthusiastic, and grateful alumni because they come back to campus and tell us that they miss this place – or, more precisely, that they miss the faculty, staff, and friends that made them feel welcome and helped them achieve their educational go
