MANSFIELD, Ohio (WOIO) - An 8-year-old Mansfield girl is dead after ingesting a bottle of heavy narcotics.

19 Investigates is not releasing the names of the child or her parents since the case is still under investigation and no one has been charged.

However, this tragic death is sparking both sympathy and outrage in the community.

Investigators want to know how this girl managed to overdose on methadone, a powerful narcotic commonly prescribed to treat heroin addiction and relieve chronic pain.

“It’s a very sad, sad event,” said Richland County’s Children Services Board Executive Director Tara Lautzenhiser.

Reports show the incident happened on the morning of May 26 at a Mansfield trailer park.

Police received a call that an 8-year-old girl had been found dead inside her bedroom.
