The Town of Fort Erie is set to receive $2.2 million from the province to modernize critical water infrastructure along Walden Boulevard, a project that is expected to unlock the development of nearly 300 new housing units.

The funding, announced Aug. 12, comes through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), part of Ontario’s $94-million commitment to protect and enhance water and irrigation infrastructure in Niagara.

Municipal officials say the investment will allow the community to address future growth while maintaining reliable services for existing residents.

The Walden Boulevard upgrade will see the replacement and extension of water assets, alongside the installation of new storm and sanitary systems.
