Animatedsci-fi is as old as cinema itself. Audiences first got a glimpse of what was to come when A Trip to Mars was released in Denmark in 1918. From there, the subgenre evolved slowly before taking off in the ‘50s and ‘60s with Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century and Astro Boy. Though the stories were mostly aimed at children, they had lots of unique science ideas. The growth continued quickly, and by the ‘80s and ‘90s, Hollywood and other film industries were overflowing with animated sci-fi flicks.
