The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting in Venice on Aug. 13.
Deputies from the Fugitive Apprehension Unit and patrol arrived at 208 Golf Club Lane to serve an active warrant at 10:58 a.m. Wednesday.
They gave Anthony Bottoni, 32, verbal commands to exit. When he refused, the deputies forced entry into the home, where Bottoni had armed himself with a firearm, deputies said.
Deputies moved to the backyard and requested SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team for assistance. Minutes later, Bottoni exited the home with a firearm.
When he refused verbal commands to drop his gun, a deputy used his Taser, which was not effective, a report said.
Bottoni allegedly pointed his firearm at the deputies, prompting them to respond with deadly force.
