Little Rock Police on Wednesday used pepper spray to disperse a large crowd of Little Rock Central High School students who had gathered around a fight that broke out between boys, according to an email sent out by the school's principal.

School authorities will discipline students involved according to the student code, Principal Nancy Rousseau said in her email, and school nurses treated some students who complained about the effects of the pepper spray.

Rousseau did not specify what caused the fight, which happened in the mezzanine outside the cafeteria. She did not specify at what time the fight occurred.

Little Rock police spokesman Mark Edwards said he could not provide additional details on the fight but that officers using pepper spray to break up fights at schools is common.
