PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Federal Hill will soon shine brighter and serve up more dining options, Providence leaders announced Wednesday.

Change is already in motion along Atwells Avenue, where the neighborhood's decades-old streetlights are being replaced with modern fixtures. City officials said the infrastructure project aims not only to enhance the area's ambiance, but also to improve safety for visitors.

"I know the way that lighting attracts people, that not only creates an ambiance that really makes people feel as though they're in a special place—which they are when they're on Federal Hill—but also, it creates safety," Gov. Dan McKee said.
