ROCKFORD, Ill. (WREX) — This Friday will mark Rockford's annual 815 Day, a celebration of community and supporting local.

The event will kick off Friday morning with the mayor's proclamation at 8:15 A.M., and will be a day full of fun events around the community and local deals and specials from area businesses.

Although 815 Day has been around for several years, this time around more people than ever are jumping into the fun.

"Expect a lot of participation. We have our highest ever this year with over 100 businesses and organizations offering different specials, events, our creative giveaways going around town so particularly every pocket of the city is going to have something going on," Chenaire Barmore, the Communications Director for Go Rockford.
