EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - IREAD is a standardized test given to Indiana third graders to test their proficiency in reading.

21 EVSC elementary schools increased their previous pass rate of the IREAD assessment.

There was a district-wide, overall pass rate of about 83-percent, which is up over 11-percent from last year.

Oak Hill Elementary School Reading Specialist Allison Allen tells us, the work to pass the IREAD test begins long before third grade.

“Prioritizing literacy at every level, every grade level,” Allen said. “It’s not just a third grade, even though it’s a third grade test, it’s not just something that happens in third grade. If we’re not thinking about passing I-READ when a child comes in in Kindergarten, we’re not thinking right.”
