All references to diversity, equity and inclusion as well as sustainability could soon be eliminated from Scottsdale’s general plan.

But opponents of the move say it may require a public vote to do.

Council is expected to take the first step during its Aug. 25 meeting toward making several amendments to the general plan that would include scrubbing the two subjects from it.

The vote, earmarked for the consent agenda, would not mean the changes would be done immediately. Rather, the proposed changes would go out for public comment at two separate meetings and be reviewed by the Scottsdale Planning Commission before being presented to council for a final vote, tentatively planned for sometime in December, according to Scottsdale Communications and Community Outreach Coordinator Kristen La
