RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Washoe County Sheriff’s Office says they have seen an increase in mail theft over the last month. The main issue has been thieves stealing sensitive information and checks and altering them for their own use.
WCSO Sgt. Juan Gomez says that his biggest advice is not to mail checks or other sensitive material from your home and instead mail it from the post office directly.
“Utilizing the USPS boxes that are, they are through our community to drop off any sensitive mail that you may have, any checks or anything with sensitive information that you might need mailed out, just utilizing the USPS drop boxes or taking it to the actual USPS Postal buildings,” says Sgt. Gomez.
