HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KBTX) - Several Huntsville ISD campuses were placed on secure or lockout statuses on the first day of school Wednesday morning following a fatal shooting in a nearby neighborhood. An young man was arrested and charged with capital murder.

According to the Huntsville Police Department (HPD), officers responded to a shooting on Essex Boulevard around 8 a.m., where they found two victims. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and another was flown to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect, identified as Huntsville 19-year-old Marquel Wiley, ran off through a wooded area toward FM 2821 before being taken into custody.
