A 76-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed early Tuesday morning in Fremont, according to police.
Just after 5 a.m., officers arrived at Paseo Padre Parkway and Capitol Avenue to investigate a major injury collision after receiving a 911 call, the department said.
Police discovered a pedestrian down in the roadway, who was declared deceased at the scene.
The vehicle involved in the collision initially left the scene but returned a short time later, according to police.
An initial investigation appears to show that the pedestrian was attempting to cross Paseo Padre Parkway mid-block, south of Capitol Avenue, while pushing a shopping cart containing their personal belongings.
