MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WYMT) - Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of a 17-month-old child.

Police say the child was found unresponsive on July 30 and later pronounced dead at Middlesboro ARH.

The child’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for further examination.

Middlesboro police say they conducted an extensive investigation, gathered evidence, and consulted with the State Medical Examiner’s Office, the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, the Bell County Attorney’s Office and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services(Child Protection Branch).

The case was presented to a grand jury, resulting in the indictment of the child’s parents.

Loren Gage of Middlesboro is charged with murder.
