COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A former Newberry College football player is taking further legal action after spending more than two months in jail for a murder he did not commit.

Ty’Ran Dixon has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against individual deputies employed with the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office, along with Sheriff Steven Griffith and other law enforcement officials, alleging critical failures in the investigation led to his wrongful arrest and incarceration.

“I’m praying like, ‘God, just get me out of these chains,’” Dixon said in an April interview with WIS .

The federal complaint, the second lawsuit Dixon has filed against the agency, presents newly uncovered details about the case.
